Assessment
How can technology NOT be used to assess learning?! I think that technology has greatly contributed to learning assessment. Technology can be used to formally and informally to assess students learning. Teachers can use websites and apps to develop testing material such as multiple choice questions, open ended questions, or discussion questions. A few sites that allow for this type of assessment are Socrative, Kahoot, and Quizlet. All of these sites operate differently from one another. Socrative is more of an individual based assessment tool, while Kahoot is an interactive tool. Quizlet is a study tool as well as an assessment tool for individual learning gains. There are also polling websites which allow for students to quickly and anonymously share information during class. Sites such as Polleverywhere can provide opinion based questions that students answer in real time for the teacher to see how difficult, or hard students find the material to be. This type of technology allows for the teacher to assess the overall understanding of the class, without taking a lot of time to do so.
When selecting technology tools for assessment it is important that the teacher evaluate and implement them appropriately. Certain technology tools are ineffective when used incorrectly or at the inappropriate time. Technology used for assessment should be implemented seamlessly so that students barely realize they are being tested.
