Communication & Collaboration

I am a large advocate for technology use in the classroom, as I feel that it provides a space for collaboration that was previously unthinkable.  When used effectively students can communicate in open spaces at all times of the day. Learning is no longer confined to four walls and students are able to ask questions and provide answers more freely.

Communication is a key part of the CCSS, ITSE and 21st Century skills. Through proper collaboration, creativity and communication, students can gain skills and tools for life that will make them employable.  Technology has greatly increased educator’s ability to promote these skills within school.  "As educators, we...have to help our students develop strong communication skills for our current modes, and adaptable communication skills for future modes enhanced by rapidly evolving technology"(Virgina, 2015). Technology is ever changing and there are new forms/mediums for communication arising at all times. It is our role as teachers to make sure that we are constantly providing new resources and opportunities to enhance learning.

Communication can be used teacher to students, teacher to parents, students to students, or student to teacher. A few mediums that exist for teacher to parent and teacher to student, are Remind, Google Calendars, and blogs.  I personally use Remind frequently to communicate with my students (Adults). It also has become a means for outside communication and learning between students. I think that it would be a wonderful communicative tool for teachers to use with parents, to keep everyone up to speed.
